Volunteering

Cardiff Buddhist Centre couldn’t exist without the work of its volunteers. Buying biscuits, cleaning, running events, updating the website – all these jobs and many more are done by a small, heroic team. But we need more help for the future of our Centre and community.

Could you give some of your time?

Whether you have an hour per month, a day per week, or any amount in-between, there are plenty of opportunities to help which can fit around your schedule and availability. The Centre only has one (part-time) employee, so plenty of important roles need to be filled by volunteers.

Dāna is the fundamental Buddhist value of generosity, and if you think the Centre provides value to your life, a gratifying way to practice that generosity is through the donation of your time.

What roles are needed?

We particularly need people interested in:

  • Website maintenance;
  • Newsletters, social media, and event promotion;
  • Fundraising and grant applications.
  • Shrine team
  • School Visits team (Only available to Mitras and OMs)
  • Tea and Biscuits team
  • Library and Bookshop team
  • Maintenance team
  • Cleaning/Tidying team

If there is something else you’d really like to help with, or a particular skill you can bring, it would be great to hear from you.

If you would like to help, please email connect@cardiffbuddhistcentre.com and our volunteer coordinator will be in touch.

“Even if a person throws the rinsings of a bowl or a cup into a village pool or pond, thinking, ‘May whatever animals live here feed on this,’ that would be a source of merit.”

Reasons to volunteer

  • Help ensure our Centre and community have a strong future
  • Meet new people and strengthen your connection to the Centre
  • Get support from a volunteer coordinator
  • Take part in altruistic activities, a fundamental Buddhist practice.

The Triratna Buddhist Community envisions the Sangha as the thousand arms of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Infinite Compassion – each arm reaching out and offering their unique gift to the world. Whatever way you can help at the Centre will allow us to continue running events and supporting a community which is so important to so many people.
