SUMMARY:Dharma Day Festival
DESCRIPTION:Dharma Day is one of the three main Buddhist festivals. \n\n\n\nWhen the Buddha gained Enlightenment\, he understood how things really are. As Buddhism says: he realised ‘the Dharma’. The next challenge was to help others see the same reality\, and that meant formulating ideas they could reflect on and practices they could undertake. The Dharma in this sense means the teachings that form a path to wisdom\, compassion and liberation. \n\n\n\nOn Dharma Day we’ll celebrate the Dharma in both senses with a meditation\, a talk\, discussion and ritual. The day will start with the two meditation groups we usually have on a Sunday – so beginners are welcome to attend. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a day of reflection\, insight and the Buddha’s words\, all led by Padmabodhini and Alokasanya. \n\n\n\nSuitable for all\, free entry\, no need to book. If you are able to\, please bring something for a shared vegan lunch \n\n\n\nSchedule for the day… \n\n\n\n10 – 11am – Regular Sunday morning meditation with group for necomers and one for experienced meditators.11 – 11.20 – Tea break11.20 – 12.00 – Talk from Padmabodhini – ‘The Stillness of the Enlightened Buddha’12.00 – 12.30 – Discussion groups12.30 – 12.45 – Break12.45 – 1.30 – 7 fold puja (Buddhist ritual)1.30 – 3pm Shared vegan lunch (bring something to contribute to it if possible)

SUMMARY:The Art of Buddhist Meditation - 6 Week Course
DESCRIPTION:6 Tuesday evenings\, 7pm-9pm\, starting Tuesday 2nd June 2026 at the Cardiff Buddhist Centre \n\n\n\nWhen we learn a new skill we begin with a technique\, we watch\, we listen and then with a deep breath we begin. Then with practice we become skillful\, until the time comes when we no longer need the technique\, we are doing it without thinking\, we are beyond the technique as the skill becomes second nature.  \n\n\n\nWe can go still further\, by refining and developing the skill until it becomes a creative art form\, the act itself is a thing of beauty. Meditation can become like this\, it has the power to lift our hearts and raise our spirits. It can even take us beyond our self\, beyond our limits. But how? \n\n\n\nThis practical course\, which is suitable for beginners and experienced meditators alike\, will take you beyond mindfulness into the fullness of Buddhist meditation. Led by Sagaradana and Candrapriya\, expect a mix of instruction\, practice\, discussion and ritual. \n\n\n\nThe course will be based around 6 themes… \n\n\n\n1. MEDITATION IS NOT WHAT YOU THINK.2. A HUMAN BEING OR A HUMAN DOING.3. FINDING STILLNESS AT THE CENTRE OF THE STORM.4. GETTING TO THE HEART OF THE MATTER.5. HAPPINESS AND THE CAUSES OF HAPPINESS.6. NO ONE EVER STEPS IN THE SAME RIVER TWICE. \n\n\n\nSo if you’re looking to learn or explore Buddhist meditation\, join us for this exciting course! \n\n\n\nTickets \n\n\n\nThis course is free for anyone with a standing order donation set up to the Cardiff Buddhist Centre. SUMMARY:Flow Like Water - A Day Retreat with Viryanaya
DESCRIPTION:“Water is fluid\, soft\, and yielding. But water will wear away rock\, which is rigid and cannot yield. As a rule\, whatever is fluid\, soft\, and yielding will overcome whatever is rigid and hard. This is another paradox: what is soft is strong” ― Lao Tzu \n\n\n\nUsing metaphors\, including elements from the natural world\, can help us to free ourselves from habitual\, limiting patterns. The Buddha frequently used the element of water as a symbol of freedom. Through discussion\, play\, visualisation and meditation we will focus on how the water element can help our practice flow. \n\n\n\nViryanaya co-runs Tirylan House Retreat Centre\, teaches meditation and has been leading retreats for over 10 years\, including camping retreats with Buddhafield. \n\n\n\nShe is particularly interested in leading workshops and retreats which weave together different aspects of practice including intellectual\, emotional\, physical and creative elements\, as well as enjoyment of the natural world. \n\n\n\nCost? \n\n\n\nThis event is offered on a dana/generosity basis\, with all proceeds split between the Centre and Viryanaya\, so please give what you can. There is a £10 refundable deposit to avoid no-shows. \n\n\n\nWho is this suitable For? \n\n\n\nAnyone with experience of the mindfulness of breathing and loving kindness meditation. They can be learnt in our drop in meditations. This retreat will not teach meditation from scratch so isn’t suitable for complete beginners.
