Sangha Night: 5 Faculties: The meaning of Faith
Sangha Night, Tuesday, 16th January
7:15-9:30 (NOTE NEW STARTING TIME)
The Meaning of Faith
Talk by Vishvapani followed by discussion and puja, or an introduction to Buddhist ritual group
This week we start our exploration of faith, ‘the first of the five spiritual faculties’. It’s a word with many associations – ‘blind faith’, ‘leaps of faith’, faith as the alternative to ‘reason’ and so on. Vishvapani will speak about what faith means for Buddhists in and how it relates to other important qualities such as reason and imagination.
For regulars at the class this will be followed by discussion and a puja.
Introduction to Buddhist ritual group
For newcomers to the class, following the talk Padmasimha will lead a group, meeting over three weeks, to introduce and discuss faith and ritual (puja). If you have questions or concerns about the puja, or if you are just curious, this is an excellent opportunity to explore them.
Vishvapani is the author of Gautama Buddha: The Life and Teachings of the Awakened One and the Buddhist contributor to Thought for the Day on BBC Radio 4.
Padmasimha is the Chair of the Cardiff Buddhist Centre
