Meditation
Meditation is a means to help bring about relaxation, concentration and contentment. It can provide an antidote to stress by becoming calmer and more self possessed, and in the long term help us to cultivate more positive ways of being.
We teach two basic meditation practices; the Mindfulness of breathing which enhances awareness and peaceful states of mind, and the Metta Bhavana or development of loving kindness, which brings about a positive change to our emotional world.
Drop-in Classes
The meditation classes are taught in a simple and straightforward manner, and our classes are open to all.
There are two drop-in classes which teach the two practices alternately. Both are suitable for complete beginners.
Wednesday class - 7.30pm
For beginners as well as providing an opportunity for more experienced meditators to simply come and practice together.
We encourage people to ask questions about any aspect of meditation and there is ample time for discussion during the class. The evening usually finishes by 9.15pm.
Thursday lunchtime class - 12.30pm
Duration one hour. Come and meditate in your lunch break!
There is no fixed charge for the classes but please give us a donation. The Buddhist Centre is a registered charity and relies entirely on donations and income from classes for its continued existence.
Wednesday morning meditation 7 to 8am, doors open 6.50 am
You will need to be familiar with both the Mindfulness of Breathing and the Metta Bhavana meditations.
